World Book Day 2017
Thursday 2nd March
Book at bedtime.
We celebrated World book day with a 'book at bedtime', promoting the joy of reading whilst settling down for sleep. The children were invited to wear their Pyjamas to school and bring their favourite book. See our Literacy section to look at the photographs.
Each child has been given a book and a reading diary to bring home every night. They will need to bring their reading diary and book to school every day. Please make an effort to listen to your child read (15 minutes each day is fantastic) and comment or at least sign their reading record. Reading is an essential part of learning and it is wonderful when we can support the children both at school and home.

This half term, the children will be doing Dance during indoor PE every Thursday.
As well as this, the class will be going swimming every Wednesday. Swimming will continue throughout the rest of Year 4. Please ensure your child has their PE kit in school and that all items are clearly labelled. Children can bring tracksuits or jogging bottoms and sweatshirts (as well as trainers) to wear for outdoor PE.
Homework each week will usually consist of:
1x Literacy, 1x Maths
Homework will be sent home on a Thursday and will be due back into school on or before the following Tuesday. If your child ever has any problems with their homework, please encourage them to speak to Mrs Collier about it as soon as possible. We can then go through it again together before it is due to be handed in.
Children have their own login in to TT Rockstars (www.ttrockstars.com) This is a website that will help children to practise and revise their times tables. Children are encouraged to log on as often as they can to help embed their times tables.
Practising numeracy skills such as number bonds, mental arithmetic and telling the time, in a friendly and informal way like in the car or at the shops, will also help improve/consolidate their learning in class.
Spellings will usually be given out on a Monday and should be practised consistently over the week. At the bottom of this page is a document that contains a list of the words that the children will be expected to spell by the end of the summer term.
Children may be asked to use and apply their spellings in sentences from time to time as this will help them understand the meaning. Please do encourage your child to use different sentence starters, interesting vocabulary and to punctuate their sentences correctly as this will also help them to improve their writing.
