Welcome to Year 6
Year 6 is taught by Mrs Collier. Mrs Zinga is the class Teaching Assistant.
Homework each week will usually consist of:
1x Literacy, 1x Maths
and each half term:1 x Other (usually science or topic work)
Homework will be sent home on a Thursday and will be due back into school on or before the following Tuesday. If children ever have problems with their homework, please encourage them to speak to me about it as soon as possible. We can then go through it again together before it is due to be handed in.
Spellings will be set for children in addition to this. They will usually be given out on a Monday and should be practised consistently over the week. The children will write these words into their reading diaries and will be sent out also via the Class Dojo also. Below is a list of the Year 5&6 words that the children are expected to be able to spell by the end of Year 6.
Children will be asked to use and apply their spellings in sentences as this will help them understand the meaning. Please do encourage your child to use different sentence starters, interesting vocabulary and to punctuate their sentences correctly as this will also help them to improve their writing.
Practising numeracy skills such as number bonds, mental arithmetic and telling the time, in a friendly and informal way like in the car or at the shops, will also help improve/consolidate their learning in class.
Class Dojo: The school is continuing to use the Class Dojo software as a reward system. Most parents are already signed up from last year but for those who aren’t, a letter detailing how to sign up and access the app will be sent home with your child. Once downloaded, you will then be able to see how your child is getting on in class and have access to the message facility where I will post updates about the class.
Parent Pay: School is using a cashless system. Please remember that you can pay for all items such as school uniform, water bottles, PE and reading bags as well as school meals and trips via Parent Pay.
- The children will be doing PE on Tuesdays (outdoor) and Wednesdays (indoor). Please ensure your child has their PE kit in school and that all items are clearly labelled. Trainers and a sweatshirt or jumper may be worn for outdoor PE.
- Children should have in school a small water bottle with a non-spill spout.
- Children are allowed to bring a healthy snack for morning break eg. Fruit/dried fruits/vegetable sticks etc
Getting in touch:
If you or your child have any questions or worries that you wish to discuss with me, however small, the best time to do this is at the end of the school day or send me a message via The Class Dojo. However, if you do need to get an urgent message to me at the beginning of the day then please do this via Mrs King in the school office.
