Friday 10th July

Friday 10th July

Hi everyone! I hope that you are all OK at home. Please keep in touch and let me know how you are getting on. Even if it just to say hi! I hope that you all have a lovely weekend!

**Please just do what work you can and please please don’t worry if you don’t do it all.  I’d rather give you lots to keep you busy than not enough. If you wish to do alternative activities, that is also absolutely fine. Just do what is right for your family situation. Also, if you get stuck or are unsure, please just ask me. **

 Today’s activities are as follows:

  1. Complete Day 63 spelling activity and a grammar on Purple Mash 2Do.
  2. 30 minutes Read Theory – take your time and do not rush. Remember your are aiming for 80% or above.
  3. If you have an IDL log in...use it each day and complete the lessons.

  1. Maths - Below, I have attached a number of the week challenge based on  a revision of mental maths skills that we have covered this in school so it will be a useful revision exercise for you. There is also an additional maths puzzle for you to try.

Please complete the worksheet if you can. You don’t have to print it off, just record your answers and working out in your green book or do them on the squared paper I gave you and stick them into you green book. The answers for yesterday’s work are there too for you to self-mark and the answers for today’s too.

Writing - Theme: Space

When following links online, parents should monitor that children are remaining on that page only and are keeping safe online.

Find out about Apollo 13 – the most famous space survival story by watching and reading these sources:

Watch: YouTube – Apollo 40th Anniversary – Apollo 13 Animation: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0aPEVRpLB-0

Read: DK Find Out – Apollo 13: https://www.dkfindout.com/uk/space/moon-landings/apollo-13/

Read: Apollo 13: The moon-mission that dodged disaster: https://www.space.com/17250-apollo-13-facts.html

Now watch this clip, taken from the film based on the story, ‘Apollo 13’ (rated PG).

The clip is taken from a scene towards the end of the film when the astronauts are on their journey back to earth. As you are watching, jot down how you think each of the people the clip focuses on (the families of the astronauts watching, the NASA workers and the astronauts themselves) are thinking and feeling.

You may wish to use a table, such as the one below, to write your ideas:

People in clip

 Thoughts /feelings

 Families

 NASA workers

 Astronauts

After completing your table, write a narrative piece retelling this scene. You may wish to write it in third person (the astronauts …, the families waited …) or first person (I sat there anxiously waiting, I held my breath).

If you do decide to write your narrative scene in first person, decide whose perspective you are going to write it from

– a NASA worker, a family member on Earth, etc.

Remember to keep checking over your work for spelling and punctuation.

Project – Plan a Summer Music Festival (Ongoing all week)

This is your final set of tasks to help you complete the planning of your very own summer music festival. Look at the PowerPoint below for today’s tasks.

Any completed work can be emailed (jenny.collier@st-stephens.lancs.sch.uk) or dojo’ed to me.

And as always, any questions please just ask.
