Friday 22nd May

Friday 22nd May

Hi everyone! I hope that you are all OK at home. Please keep in touch and let me know how you are getting on. Even if it just to say hi! Next week is half term so there will be no work set. I hope that the sun is shining and we can all have the opportunity to have some extra fresh air and exercise with people in our household. For those of our Year 6 family who will be celebrating Eid, may I wish you 'Eid Mubarak' and hope that you and your families have a blessed day and a blessed year to come.

**Please just do what work you can and please please don’t worry if you don’t do it all.  I’d rather give you lots to keep you busy than not enough. If you wish to do alternative activities, that is also absolutely fine. Just do what is right for your family situation. Also, if you get stuck or are unsure, please just ask me. **

 Today’s activities are as follows:

  1. Complete Day 35 spelling activity and a grammar on Purple Mash 2Do.
  2. 30 minutes Read Theory – take your time and do not rush. Remember your are aiming for 80% or above.
  3. Below, I have attached a worksheet based on finding fractions of an amount or number. We have covered this in school so it will be a useful revision exercise for you.

**REMEMBER THAT TO FIND THREE FIFTHS (3/5) YOU NEED TO FIND ONE FIFTH (1/5) BY DIVIDING THE AMOUNG BY 5. THEN YOU CAN FIND 3 LOTS OF IT TO FIND 3/5.**

There are 2 useful videos as another reminder on: https://www.bbc.co.uk/bitesize/articles/zjhtpg8

Just watch the video. You don’t need to read/access any of the others things on that page.

Please complete this if you can. You don’t have to print it off, just record your answers and working out in your green book or do them on the squared paper I gave you and stick them into you green book. The answers for yesterday’s work are there too (on the web page) for you to self-mark and I will post up the answers for today’s work for you next week.

  1. If you have an IDL log in...use it each day and complete the lessons.

Writing - Theme: Climate Change

Read the following three poems attached to the bottom of the class webpage.:

- Ways to Change the World – Start Now by Matt Goodfellow

- Munch, Crunch, Packed Lunch … by Liz Brownlee

- Couch Superstar by Matt Goodfellow

All of the above are taken from the extract of Be The Change by Liz Brownlee, Roger Stevens, and Matt Goodfellow

After reading the three poems, select your favourite one. Write down which is your favourite giving reasons for your choice.

Now watch the rap Refuse, Reuse, Recycle on Earth’s Ekko: Together We Can Make A World of Difference from 11:00 – 12:22 mins here:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DyIkKHS0ZmE

After watching the rap, create your own based on climate change. This may be completely written by yourself or you may choose to edit one of the poems you read earlier.

If you do choose to edit one of the poems, you could edit it in these suggested ways:

- adding an extra verse you have written and/or a chorus which could go between each stanza

- redrafting some of the lines using https://www.wordhippo.com/ to help with improving the vocabulary

- removing some of the original lines / changing the order.

Once you have written your rap, have a go at performing it to someone in your house. If possible, you could also record it to send to me!

Computing – Spreadsheets

Go onto Purple Mash. On the 2do, there are Spreadsheet activities for you to do. There is the video to help guide you through it (the top right hand corner next to the red exit arrow). The video tells you how to access the other activities.

Science – The human body

Using the notes that you made yesterday or using some of your own research, draw and label the bones in the human skeleton in your green book. Or if you want to be more creative, you can make a model of it using items from inside your home or natural materials collected from outside. If you choose to be more creative, please take a photograph and send it to me.

Any completed work can be emailed (jenny.collier@st-stephens.lancs.sch.uk) or dojo’ed to me.

And as always, any questions please just ask.
