As our topic Autumn topic is dilemma and resolution stories, we have started this half term by looking at 'A Matter of Loaf and Death'.
The children have throughly enjoyed this unit. We used lots of different Year 4 skills to gain a deeper understanding of the story. So far we have looked at:
Inverted commas and punctuation for speech
The thoughts and feelings of each character
Using point and evidence
Expanded noun phrases for description
We have applied all of the skills taught to create our own dilemma and resolution stories based on 'A Matter of Loaf and Death'. We even created front covers for our stories.
In the Spring half term we have looked at the archaic poem 'The Spider and the Fly' and have written our own version of a predator persuading their prey to come into their home. Our polished pieces are now outside the Year 4 classroom.
In addition, we have looked at persuasive house adverts and will shortly be writing our own based on our Stone Age house models.
