Wednesday 24th June 2020.

Activities to complete today (if you can):

  • Reading: Spend at least 30 minutes answering reading comprehensions on Read Theory. Link:
  • Reading: Spend at least 30 minutes reading a book of your choice. If possible, adults to ask questions about the book after they have finished reading. Link to possible questions you could ask:
  • Spellings: On the ‘Attachments’ section of our Class Page, you will find a spellings document. Please practise these spellings ahead of retaking the spelling test later in the week. You will need an adult or an older brother or sister to help you with the dictation during this task. Again, please be careful to check the pronunciation of the spellings here - as some are very tricky.
  • Maths: Use the link below:

Click on Week 9, Lesson 3 – Multiplying decimals by 10,100 and 1000. Watch the video, do the activity, mark your answers. If you have any questions, or are struggling in some way – please get in contact with myself on Dojo and I will try my best to help you! The questions and answer sheets are on the ‘Attachments’ section of today’s work on our school class page.

(Remember – if this material to too hard for your child at this stage in their development or without the resources they would have access to in school – please do not worry about doing this. You are also welcome to try lower year group work if you feel this would be beneficial. Please contact me if you think this applies to yourself.)

p.s. Please message me to let me know when you have done your maths work – it is nice to see it, as I cannot see it like I could on Purple Mash. Thanks!

Writing Task – Explore what life was like for people in Britain in World War Two. This week focuses on how propaganda was used in World War Two and the Blitz. When following links online, parents should monitor that children are remaining on that page only and are keeping safe online.

Read and enjoy the opening chapter, Keep Calm and Carry On from Letters from the Lighthouse by Emma Carroll here:

(You will need to become a member of LoveReading4Kids. Membership is free).

Use to find out the meaning of any words you are unsure of. Make a note of the new words you have learnt. Write down what you think Olive’s thoughts and feelings are during these key points in the chapter. Make sure you give reasons for each of your answers based on what you have read:

1. Eating supper at home (pages 1-2).

2. Arriving at the cinema and watching the newsreel (pages 4-5).

3. Air-raid announcement – waiting for Sukie (pages 6-7).

4. Taken towards an air-raid shelter (pages 8-9).

5. Seeing Sukie and following her (pages 9-11).

6. Sukie talking to a stranger (page 12).

An example answer for key point 1, ‘Eating supper at home’, may be: 'I think Olive doesn’t like the food she is having for tea because she says it is that bad that ‘it’s a wonder we’re still alive’. However, she feels she has to eat it because she says ‘no-one chucks food away with a war on’.

Remember, if you are not sure or need any help with anything on here – just contact myself on Dojo.
