Coronation Celebrations

During the week beginning 1st May there were many activities taking place in school leading up to the Coronation of King Charles III. The railings around the school were decorated with bunting, crowns and drawings of King Charles. The school corridors were also decorated with bunting and balloons which reflected the fact that something significant was happening on the forthcoming weekend.

On 2nd May one of our local temples held a special coronation 'big lunch' and invited members of the local community to attend. A group of our children also attended and had a tour of the temple, watched some Asian dancing and had a special lunch. The children had a great time and we are very thankful for the invitation.

In school we celebrated the Coronation with a special celebration picnic on Friday 12th May on the field. There was plenty of party food and cake for everyone and children and staff wore red, white and blue. Residents from neighbouring Judd House were invited along to hear the children sing the National Anthem and special songs which they had learned. Nursery, Reception and Y1 performed Trooping the Colour, Y1/2 and Y2 sang 'Coronation Day', Y3 and Y3/4 sang 'Long Live the King', Y4 and Y5C sang 'Message for the King' and Y5/6 and Y6 sang 'Sing for the King'. The children had a brilliant time.

The children had been hard at work making special crowns which they wore during the celebrations. Many of the crowns were made using recycled materials such as cereal boxes and tin cans which the children were able to find at home. The crowns were amazing, some of which are now proudly on display in our 'cabinet of crowns' in school.
