Celebrating Eid

We celebrated the festival of Eid in school this week in a number of different ways. There was a special menu at lunchtime on Tuesday and pupils came to school in non-uniform or their Eid clothes.

Mrs Yilmaz very kindly offered KS1 pupils to experience some Turkish marbling on paper. The pupils then cut out shapes to decorate the covers of a special 'reflections book' which was inspired by the story 'Malala's Magic Pencil'.

Our Reception children visited the mosque this week and learned more about why the mosque is a special place to Muslims in our community and we thank Mr Timol for welcoming us.

Lower KS2 children learned about Islamic architecture and geometric patterns and received a talk by Mr Rawat, the architect who worked on the Grafton Street mosque. Upper KS2 practiced calligraphy as they learned about why the Qu'ran is important to Muslims.  Mrs Lokhat gave a brilliant talk, assisted by Farhana Master, about the Qu'ran and how it was revealed.

We are very grateful to the many families who offered to come into school to help with mehndi too, particularly Hawa Bhula and Maria Ali.
