SSS Fairtrade Bake Off March 2023

We had a fantastic time raising over £300 for Christian Aid as we brought our bakes into school for judging by the Fairtrade team (Cath and Jane).  We also developed a display about the work of Christian Aid who are supporting people in Turkey and Syria after the dreadful earthquakes. One of our families enabled us to learn how to produce Turkish Marbling pictures for the display, using traditional techniques.

The standard and quality of baking coupled with the taste of the bakes made judging extremely difficult.  Our Worship Leaders prepared this event, encouraging children to use recycled materials and to decorate a message on bunting. They advertised the event by making a banner for the railings and posters. They also wrote to the judges to invite them to attend as well as prepared entry forms and produced information for the Fairtrade display. 

Our Preston Mayor visited to sample the cakes and to find out more about the children's interest in "Saving the Planet" from climate change. The Eco Council met with him too to learn more about how the school can improve the local environment, with help from the City Council.
