Upper KS2 children meet an award winning Artist
We were delighted to be invited to the Judges' Lodgings in Lancaster to meet Lela Harris. Lela is an award winning artist who was asked to create portraits of 6 enslaved Lancastrians. Lela researched the 6 people, brought to the North West in the 1700s and who were 6 of very many but with some scant historical information, were highlighted for the portrait project. Lela spoke to us about the months of research, the materials she used to paint their portraits and how she became involved in the City's wish to raise the profile of those who must not be forgotten. It was a fantastic experience and we will use information from this trip to launch Black History Month in our school.
