Fairtrade fortnight

Date: 10th Mar 2022 @ 2:37pm

Year 6  took part in Fairtrade fortnight last week. We looked at what "Fairtrade" meant  and decided it helped people in poorer countries get " Fair pay for a fair days work". We learnt about child labour and poor working conditions. We looked at who was involved in the process of food being in our cupboards from farmers and pickers to supermarket owners and delivery firms. We also looked at food miles and talked about trying to buy produce which is made locally or in the UK to cut petrol use and  help the enviroment.

We took part in a live learning session will Eden in Cornwall and looked at the cocoa plant and followed its journey from plant to chocolate bar.

Mrs wright set us a challenge to make something out of two tubs of Fairtrade hot chocolate powder. We did some research and made our own mini chocolate bars. Our ingrediants were fairtrade hot chocolate powder, local butter and icing sugar. We wrapped our mini chocolate bars and made fairtrade labels for them we called them "Fair bites".

Science- Light/Space

Date: 8th Mar 2022 @ 2:55pm

In our Science lessons this term we have been learning all about Light and Space.

We used torches and lasers to see how rays of light are reflected and how our eyes enable us to see images and colour.

We also had a visit from The Space dome which was very exciting. As we entered the  large black inflatable dome we were transported in to outer-space. We saw the night sky, full of stars , visited the moon just like Neil Armstrong and went on a rocket  journey to see all the planets in our solar system.

It was truly amazing but did make some of us a little wobbly once it was finished
