Year 5/6 2021 - 2022
Hello everyone and welcome to Year 5/6
Our teacher is Mrs Devitt and Miss Clayton works in our class as well.
Autumn Term Topics.
We are really excited about returning to learning and finding out more about the different topics we are studying.
In History and Geography, we will be learning about Ancient Greece and the geography of the country. Our art links to this and we will be creating our own clay vases and in DT we will be making different types of bread ( Ms Devitt like spicy chilli or olives in hers!) In Science we are finding out about forces and are looking forward to some exciting investigations. Our RE topic this half term is Judaism. We are hoping to talk to a lady called Amy and find out all about her faith. During our PE lessons we will be doing lots of work on problem solving and working together alongside our gymmnastics units. oUR English lessons will be focussed on poetry and Greek Myths. In Maths we are starting off learning all about place value before moving on to 4 operations.
PE and outdoor learning
Indoor PE is on a Thursday and Outdoor PE is on Fridays. All children need a PE kit ( black shorts, white t shirt, trainers and warm out door clothes), hair should be tied back and no earings worn. Some children will also be swimming on a Friday at Hutton pool. ( swimming costume/trunks, towel, swimming hat, plastic bag for wet clothes)
Each day, children are expected to read for at least 20 minutes, practice their spellings and spend 5-10 minutes on TT Rockstars.
Weekly - 1 piece of English and Maths plus a topic piece termly.
Homework will usually be set on a Thursday and should be returned by the following Tuesday. Longer topic type tasks may be set from time to time.
School is using a cashless system. Please remember that you can pay for all items such as school uniform, water bottles, PE and reading bags as well as school meals and trips via Parent Pay.
The school is continuing to use the Class Dojo software as a reward system. Most parents are already signed up from last year but for those who aren't, a letter detailing how to sign up and access the app will be sent home with your child. Once downloaded, you will then be able to see how your child is getting on in class and have access to the message facility where I will post updates about the class.
